Earth's ancient cultures, from the Bible to the Greeks to the Romans, tell tales of giants. Reports of anthropological digs, even in the American West and on Catalina Island, share stories (even newspaper articles) of discoveries of giant skeletons. Myth (or is it?) has it that the Smithsonian would swoop in, collect the bones in the name of science, only to disappear with them ... never to be seen again.
Truth? Rumor? Mythology? Well, the Bible and other historical documents refer to giants as does virtually every other culture around the world. So, you decide.
Anakim
[instrumental intro]
[Verse 1]
In the days when the heavens came low
Sons of Elohim walked to and fro
Daughters of men bore children of might
Nephilim rose in the antediluvian night
[Chorus]
Anakim, Anakim
Tall as the cedar, strong as the storm
Rephaim walking where angels were born
From Arba’s valley to Gath by the sea
The earth still tremble when they speak of thee
Anakim… Anakim…
[Verse 2]
Og of Bashan on his iron bed
Thirteen cubits from foot to head
Goliath laughed at a shepherd boy’s stone
Till the sling sang out and the giant was thrown
[Chorus]
Anakim, Anakim
Shadows on Hebron, dust on the plain
Echoes of thunder in every refrain
We were grasshoppers, so the spies cried
Yet a little faith made the giants subside
Anakim… Anakim…
[instrumental interlude]
[Bridge – female choir, slow & haunting]
Oy, gibborim, where have you gone?
Your bones are silent, your cities withdrawn
The wind through En Gedi whispers your name
But the desert keeps secrets and covers your shame
[Verse 3]
They dug in the mounds of the western shore
Found only mastodon, nothing more
Photoshop giants in newspapers tall
Fell to the truth when the pixels dissolved
[Final Chorus – full choir, triumphant]
Anakim, Anakim
Some were legend, some were seed of the proud
Some were nine feet when the measuring bowed
Yet the promise stood taller than any of you
For the kingdom belongs to the small and the few
Anakim… Anakim…
Your shadow is broken, your story is through
[Outro – soft ney & fading oud]
Nephilim… Rephaim…
Anakim…
The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it
Even the giants must bow in the end
[instrumental outro]
