One of the most amazing things in life are found in it's dichotomies. Strength at times of weakness. Love in times of apparent hate or betrayal. The older I get, the more I see them. This piece was inspired by those times in life when we think we're supposed to be one thing and we turn out to be another even better version that you didn't know you could be.

I've Never

[instrumental intro]

[Verse 1]

I've never been taller

Than when I was on my knees

Head bowed, heart breaking open

Finally learning to breathe

I've never been more resolute

Than standing in that fire

Life-altering pain crashing over

And I didn't run, I didn't tire

[Chorus]

I've never been stronger

Than after I surrendered

I've never been more powerful

Than after they lied and left me bleeding

I've never seen more clearly

Than through these streaming tears

I've never, I've never, I've never…

Been more alive than here

[Verse 2]

I've never been more hopeful

Than after I finally prayed

Words I didn't even believe

Somehow carried me anyway

The weight I carried for so long

Started falling away that night

Every "why me" turned to "watch me"

In the hush of morning light

[Chorus]

I've never been stronger

Than after I surrendered

I've never been more powerful

Than after they cheated and mistreated

I've never seen more clearly

Than through these streaming tears

I've never, I've never, I've never…

Felt closer to being whole right here

[Bridge]

And then I chose forgiveness

Not because they deserved the grace

But because my soul was begging

To step out of that cage

[Final Chorus – softer, building]

I've never felt lighter

Than after I forgave

Every chain I thought was iron

Turned to dust and drifted away

I've never been taller

Than when I was on my knees

I've never been more me

Than in the moment I was freed

[Outro – gentle, almost spoken]

I've never…

I've never…

I've never been more alive

Than now
