I want to try something different on this one. With the Christmas season upon us for another year, I wanted to take a look at the story of Jesus' birth and create a series of pieces that build upon each other ... just the way the scriptures do. This is a series inspired by Luke 2 verses 8-14.

Good News of Great Joy - Luke 2:8-10

  • Good News of Great Joy - Lyrics

    [Instrumental intro]

    [Intro]

(Soft piano and sleigh bells, building wonder)

Silent night in the fields so cold

    Shepherds watching their flocks unfold

    [Verse 1]

Out in the fields, keeping watch by night

Over their sheep in the pale moonlight

Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared

Glory shining 'round, filling them with fear

    [Verse 2]

"Do not be afraid," the angel said

"I bring you tidings that fill hearts with glad"

"For born this day in David's town so near

A Savior, Christ the Lord, the King is here"

    [Chorus]

    Good news of great joy

    I bring to you tonight

    Good news of great joy

That will be for all the people

For unto you is born this day

A Savior, who is Christ the Lord

    Good news, great joy

Glory to God in the highest!

    [Verse 3]

"This will be a sign for you to find

The babe wrapped in cloths, in a manger lying"

Then heaven opened, a multitude sang

"Glory to God, peace on earth, let it ring!"

    [Chorus]

    Good news of great joy

    I bring to you tonight

    Good news of great joy

That will be for all the people

For unto you is born this day

A Savior, who is Christ the Lord

    Good news, great joy

Glory to God in the highest!

    [Instrumental solo]

    [Bridge]

    (Building choir and orchestral swell)

The shepherds said, "Let us go and see

This thing the Lord has made known to we"

They hurried off and found Mary and Joe

The baby lying in the manger low

    [Chorus]

    (Full choir, epic build)

    Good news of great joy

    For all the world tonight

    Good news of great joy

    That echoes through the ages

For unto us is born this day

A Savior, who is Christ the Lord

    Good news, great joy

Glory to God in the highest!

    [Outro]

Peace on earth, goodwill to men

The angels' song rings out again

    Good news... great joy...

    Forevermore

    [Instrumental intro]

A Savior is Born - Luke 2:11

  • A Savior is Born - Lyrics

    [instrumental intro]

    [Verse 1]

In a quiet town so long ago

Under starry skies, a humble glow

    Shepherds watching through the night

    Angels singing, pure and bright

    [Chorus]

    A Savior is born tonight

Christ the Lord in Bethlehem's light

    Glory rings from heaven above

Peace on earth, God's endless love

    A Savior is born!

    [Verse 2]

Unto you this day in David's city

A child is given, full of grace and pity

King of kings yet in a manger laid

The promised one, our debts are paid

    [Chorus]

    A Savior is born tonight

Christ the Lord in Bethlehem's light

    Glory rings from heaven above

Peace on earth, God's endless love

    A Savior is born!

    [Instrumental Solo]

    [Bridge]

    Hear the angels' song arise

Hope for all beneath the skies

Joy to the world, the Lord has come

    Let every heart welcome Him

    [Chorus]

    A Savior is born tonight

Christ the Lord in Bethlehem's light

    Glory rings from heaven above

Peace on earth, God's endless love

    [Outro]

    A Savior is born...

    A Savior is born!

    [Instrumental outro]

Sign in the Manger - Luke 2:12

  • Sign in the Manger - Lyrics

    [Instrumental Intro]

    [Verse 1]

    Silent night over Bethlehem's fields

Shepherds watching, the stars stand still

    Suddenly heaven breaks open wide

    Angels singing, glory shines bright

    [Pre-Chorus]

"Fear not," they cry in the midnight air

"Good news of joy for the world to hear"

A Savior born, the Messiah has come

Go and find Him, the Promised One

    [Chorus]

This will be the sign, the sign in the manger

A baby wrapped in swaddling clothes

Lying in a manger, the King in the straw

    Heaven's greatest gift lying low

Oh, the sign in the manger

Love has come down to us tonight

Glory to God in the highest

Peace on earth, goodwill has arrived

    [Verse 2]

Humble stable, no room at the inn

    Mary treasures the wonder within

Joseph guards them through the cold dark night

While the world sleeps beneath starlight

    [Pre-Chorus]

    Angels' voices still echo clear

The song of hope that casts out fear

From heaven's throne to a bed of hay

God with us now, Emmanuel came

    [Chorus]

This will be the sign, the sign in the manger

A baby wrapped in swaddling clothes

Lying in a manger, the King in the straw

    Heaven's greatest gift lying low

Oh, the sign in the manger

Love has come down to us tonight

Glory to God in the highest

Peace on earth, goodwill has arrived

    [Instrumental Solo]

    [Bridge]

No crown of gold, no palace grand

Just a tiny heart and tiny hands

Yet the skies declare, the angels sing

This child in the manger is Christ the King

    [Final Chorus]

This will be the sign, the sign in the manger

A baby wrapped in swaddling clothes

Lying in a manger, forever we'll remember

The night that heaven's light broke through

Oh, the sign in the manger

Love has come down to us tonight

Glory to God in the highest

Glory to God, forever we sing

Peace on earth, let the anthem ring

    [Outro]

    Sign in the manger

    Sign in the manger

    The Savior is here

    The Savior is here

    [Instrumental Outro]

Heavenly Multitude - Luke 2:13

  • Heavenly Multitude - Lyrics

    [Instrumental intro]

    [Verse 1]

    Silent night over Bethlehem's plain

Shepherds watching their flocks in the chill

Stars above in their ancient refrain

When a single bright angel stood still

    [Pre-Chorus]

"Fear not," he said, his voice like the dawn

"Good tidings of joy I bring unto all"

Then light upon light, the heavens were drawn

    And glory surrounded the stall

    [Chorus]

Glory, glory to God in the highest!

Glory, glory to God in the highest!

Peace on earth, goodwill to men

A multitude singing again and again

Glory, glory to God in the highest!

    [Verse 2]

    Suddenly there, a heavenly host

    Countless angels in radiant array

Praising God with a thunderous boast

While the world lay in darkness that day

    [Pre-Chorus 2]

Born is the Savior, Christ the Lord

In a manger, so lowly He lies

King of kings, yet by love He is drawn

To redeem us beneath these night skies

    [Chorus]

Glory, glory to God in the highest!

Glory, glory to God in the highest!

Peace on earth, goodwill to men

A multitude singing again and again

Glory, glory to God in the highest!

    [Instrumental solo]

[Bridge – Choir only, building softly then exploding]

    Gloria... Gloria...

    In excelsis Deo

    Gloria... Gloria...

    In excelsis Deo

[Final Chorus – Full epic build, layered choir and orchestra]

Glory, glory to God in the highest!

Glory, glory to God in the highest!

Peace on earth, and mercy mild

    God and sinners reconciled!

Glory, glory to God in the highest!

Glory, glory to God... in the highest!

[Outro – Angelic choir fading with bells]

Peace on earth... goodwill to men...

    A heavenly multitude... sings again...

    Gloria...

    [Instrumental Outro]

Glory in the Higest - Luke 2:14

  • GLory in the Highest - Lyrics

    [instrumental intro]

    [Verse 1]

    Silent night over Bethlehem town,

Shepherds watching their flocks on the ground.

Stars are shining, the world is still,

When heaven breaks through the midnight chill.

A light explodes in the sky so bright,

Angels appearing in robes of white.

Fear not, they sing with a voice like thunder,

Good news of joy, great wonder.

    [Pre-Chorus]

    Hark! The herald angels cry,

A Savior born beneath the sky.

    [Chorus]

    Glory, glory in the highest!

Glory to God in the highest heaven!

Peace on earth, goodwill to men,

To those on whom His favor rests.

    Sing hallelujah, lift your voice,

The King of kings has made His choice.

    Glory, glory in the highest!

    Glory in the highest!

    [Verse 2]

Low in a manger, the baby lies,

God in flesh beneath humble skies.

Heaven’s host in a shining throng,

Fill the night with their endless song.

From the throne to a bed of hay,

Love has come to light our way.

Every heart that receives His grace,

Finds the peace of His warm embrace.

    [Pre-Chorus

    Hark! The herald angels cry,

The Prince of Peace has drawn nigh.

    [instrumental solo]

    [Bridge]

Let the mountains echo, let the valleys ring,

    Every creature join the offering.

From the angels’ chorus to the hearts of men,

We’ll sing it now and sing again:

    [Final Chorus (Build)]

Glory, glory in the highest! (Highest!)

Glory to God in the highest heaven!

Peace on earth, peace on earth again,

To every soul His favor sends.

    Sing hallelujah, lift it high,

Our Savior lives, He reigns on high!

    Glory, glory in the highest!

    Glory in the highest!

    [Outro]

    Glory in the highest…

    Peace on earth tonight…

    Glory in the highest…

    Christ the Lord, our light.

    [instrumental intro]
