Every father should be as lucky as I. A father rather late in life, I was blessed with an infant boy who has grown into a fine young man. He was a fighter from the start. Defiant, standing up to anyone or anything that needed standing up to ... and sometimes that meant me.

He served his country with pride, he stands by his army buddies today. But so, too, is he smart and innovative, entrepreneurial and kind. He's the son I didn't know was possible for me.

God has blessed me with some very wonderful people in my life. From parents and sister, from grandparents to aunts, uncles, and cousins. And now with a growing family my wife brought with her. There's nothing I wouldn't do for any of them.

But this one .... he's my son!

My Son

[verse 1]

I was thirty-nine when your cry filled the air,

The world got brighter, I just stood there and stared.

Tiny hands, a life brand new,

A gift from God I never knew.

[pre chorus]

Years rolled on, and so did we,

You found your way, and I found me.

[chorus]

My son, my pride, my greatest song,

The years flew by, but love stayed strong.

From cradle dreams to battles won,

You’ll always be my son.

[verse 2]

Ball and bat were never your fight,

You chose the mat beneath the light.

Strength and heart, the will to stand,

You learned to prove your steady hand.

From Nerf and foam to steel and sand,

You wore the gear, you took a stand.

Kenya’s dust, the soldier’s sun,

The boy I knew became the one.

[bridge]

Across oceans wide, your love stays near,

Through screens and miles, her voice is clear.

From Bratslava’s glow to home again,

You’ve built your dreams with your own hands.

[chorus]

My son, my pride, my greatest song,

The road’s been hard, but you’ve been strong.

From soldier’s days to what’s begun,

You’ll always be my son.

[verse 4]

Now you guard by day, create by night,

Turning sparks of thought into light.

You’ve built your world, you’ve made your way,

Still the boy I see today.

[outro]

God blessed me once with an infant small,

Then a child, then a man — I’ve seen it all.

When my race is run, and my days are done,

I’ll smile and say, “That’s my son.”
