The allure of socialism is undeniable. Promises of equality and access to universal education and healthcare are enticing. What proponents seems to avoid discussing is the inherent loss of individual freedoms, the inefficiency of centralized planning, the massive opportunity for fraud and corruption, the censorship and, last but not least, the horrible track record of countries who have traveled that path.

That socialist ideas and dreams still live among some of my gray-haired contemporaries and today's university students is a testament to the success of the 45 goals of communism in America read into the congressional record in 1963.

The "educational system" in this country has created generations of compliant students who lack the historical perspective that would inform them about life under socialism/communism. They don't even have the curiosity to entertain the ideas because they've been so conditioned to accept the inherent fairness and equality espoused by socialists.

This piece is intended to highlight the failures of socialism in the 20th and 21st centuries and is a companion to both "45 Goals" and "Socialism's History". It was inspired by this quote attributed to Larry Lambert in 2019:

"The problem with socialism is that you can vote your way into it

but you need to shoot your way out of it."

Shoot Your Way Out

[Instrumental Intro]

[Verse 1]

You hear the promises, sweet as pie

Sharing the wealth, no one left high and dry

Vote 'em in with a smile on your face

Compassion's the word, fair share's the chase

But deep down you know, it's a thief in the night

Taking what's yours, claiming it's right

[Chorus]

You can vote your way into the red

Socialism's call, filling your head

But when the dream crumbles, and the blood starts to spill

You'll have to shoot your way out, against their will

Shoot your way out, from the chains they bind

Freedom ain't free, when the truth's left behind

[Verse 2]

They demonize the haves, praise the crowd

Build their empire on lies out loud

Bread lines form, the plans all fail

Scapegoats hunted, thrown in jail

True believers cling to the flame

But reality hits like a runaway train

[Chorus]

You can vote your way into the red

Socialism's call, filling your head

But when the dream crumbles, and the blood starts to spill

You'll have to shoot your way out, against their will

Shoot your way out, from the chains they bind

Freedom ain't free, when the truth's left behind

[Instrumental solo]

[Bridge]

History whispers of kulaks and graves

Purges and famine, the cost of their waves

Can't defy gravity, can't cheat the game

Supply and demand, they'll always reclaim

So stock up now, while the sun still shines

'Cause when it goes dark, you'll draw the lines

[Verse 3]

From Moscow's fall to the jokes they tell

Mother's fear when the communists swell

We see the signs in our own backyard

Lies on the screen, hitting us hard

Vote with your heart, but keep your aim true

'Cause escaping the trap might come down to you

[Chorus]

You can vote your way into the red

Socialism's call, filling your head

But when the dream crumbles, and the blood starts to spill

You'll have to shoot your way out, against their will

Shoot your way out, from the chains they bind

Freedom ain't free, when the truth's left behind

[Outro]

Shoot your way out... yeah, shoot your way out

The price of the lie, without a doubt

[Instrumental outro]
