As I've gotten older, the Christmas tree that lights up our home every year seems to have a different meaning. Where, as a child, it was a symbol of wonder, excitement, anticipation, and beauty, today it feels too much like the symbol of commercialism and maybe even paganism.
I was looking for a way to recapture some of that childhood wonder in this old man's heart. I realized that today the gifts I treasure most are spiritual in nature ... family, friends, time together, song and story. Yes, I still enjoy sharing gifts but the true value of Christmas is in the original story and the things that bring family and friends together.
This piece was inspired by that search for bringing the spiritual and the heartfelt meaning back to what feels like the Christmas heart of the western home ... the Christmas Tree.
